My Background
I spent more than 40 years at the International Herald Tribune, the international newspaper that has since evolved into The New York Times International Edition. Those years continue to influence the way I think, work and invest today.
I lived through one of the biggest transformations in the newspaper industry. As free newspapers and digital advertising reshaped the media landscape, every restructuring brought new challenges. Each new role became an opportunity to adapt, learn new skills and keep moving forward.
One of those roles took me into the IT department, where I became part of the production chain behind the newspaper’s financial pages. Working closely with the newsroom, the production department and Associated Press, I helped ensure that stock market quotations from the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ reached the financial pages before the printing deadline. In the days before the internet, every minute counted and accuracy was essential.
Another role led me to the Fin Stats department, where I worked alongside the newspaper’s financial journalists, providing the market data and statistics they needed for their articles. Looking back, those years taught me habits that still influence the way I invest today: checking the facts, relying on trustworthy information and never rushing an investment decision.
When I was made redundant during the COVID-19 pandemic, so close to retirement, I decided to see it not as the end of a career but as the beginning of a new chapter. I turned to online marketing, helping promote online education. That experience taught me that the internet offers extraordinary opportunities to those willing to learn, adapt and persevere. I eventually became an English teacher, discovering the same satisfaction I had always found in learning: helping others learn and grow.
Today, my approach to investing reflects everything I learned throughout my professional life. I believe that successful investing is built on reliable information, independent thinking and the patience to let exceptional businesses create lasting value.

Retirement gave me something I had rarely had before: time.
Time to read, to learn, to think and to explore ideas simply because they interest me.
Investing is part of that journey, alongside teaching, reading and remaining curious about the world around me.
For me, lifelong learning is not a goal. It is simply a way of life.
